The Through-Line
From my earliest studies, I was drawn not just to the piano but to what the piano could do for people - how a piece of music could unlock something in a listener that they didn't know was waiting. That instinct led me to pursue teaching and performance simultaneously, and to understand them as two expressions of the same commitment.
Over the years spent building my teaching practice, performing and managing arts programs, I return to the same core belief: music is not a destination you arrive at. It is a practice that shapes who you are becoming. My job, in every context, is to help people access that practice on their own terms.
My Journey
My path has been shaped by impactful mentors, demanding institutions, and the joy I feel in serving my community and helping others.
Early Years
A military family childhood meant frequent moves, new schools, and the need to adapt to new communities. Alongside a genuine love of sports and academics, music became the thread that held steady across every transition - a new piano teacher in each city, each one offering something valuable. These early years of navigating different teaching styles, building relationships quickly, and finding my footing in unfamiliar communities shaped my belief that a student's voice matters, that a teacher's job is to listen first, and that music has a unique power to make people feel at home - even when they aren't yet.

Eastman offered rigorous training in performance, music theory, history, and aural skills. It was an immersion in conservatory-level standards of musicianship and the discipline surrounding performance practice. It was also where I first began to question how the traditional conservatory model could be improved to better equip its students for success and more comprehensively serve the community. In pursuing Arts Leadership Certificate studies, I began a deliberate search for a broader, more human framework for what music education could be.

At NYU, I taught keyboard and theory courses as an adjunct instructor while completing my degree. I made my own teaching materials and collaborated openly with my peers on our instruction approaches. I was motivated to honor the trust that NYU placed in me to work with hundreds of music and non-music majors across multiple schools. This experience opened my eyes to how music study could take on so many different forms, even while emphasizing fundamental music concepts. I was thrilled to help my students take away something through an experience defined by their personal creativity and meaning. NYU instilled in me the desire to bridge the gap between music exploration in and outside of the classroom.

The doctoral years brought everything together - a published dissertation on Hummel's Piano Sonata Op. 81, teaching at BU, MIT, and Wheaton, leading community engagement at the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, and completing the Arts Management Certificate at BU’s Metropolitan College. The degree was the credential, but the practical application and concurrent work was the true education. In Boston, I was grateful to feel an increasing sense of purpose and belonging: I could use my experiences and knowledge to help others on their own terms and throughout my community.

As Director of Education for the Multiverse Concert Series, I design interdisciplinary music and science curricula for K-12 students across Greater Boston, performing as a featured pianist and leading community engagement initiatives. As a pianist and collaborative performer, I stay active playing recitals, various gigs, chamber music, choral music, sacred music, and new works. As a private studio teacher and faculty member at the South Shore Piano School, I work with students across every level and age and design workshops and digital media to support our student body.

My work has been shaped in motion - teaching while studying, performing while leading, always experimenting with new applications of music and arts education. I am open to new collaborative projects, community partnerships, commissioned works, and outreach initiatives.
